This memo provides extensions to Generalized Multi-Protocol Label Switching (GMPLS) signaling for control of wavelength switched optical networks (WSON). These extensions build on previous work for the control of G.709 based networks.
In this note a number of PCE architectural and computational options are evaluated against a medium sized wavelength switched optical network. The key performance measures of overall and backward blocking are reported under different dynamic traffic scenarios.
This memo provides application-specific requirements and protocol enhancements for the Path Computation Element communication Protocol (PCEP) for the support of Wavelength Switched Optical Networks (WSON). Lightpath provisioning in WSONs requires a routing and wavelength assignment (RWA) process.
This document provides an information model of information needed by the routing and wavelength assignment (RWA) process in wavelength switched optical networks (WSONs). The purpose of information described in this model is to facilitate constrained lightpath computation in WSONs. In particular in cases where there are no or a limited number of wavelength converters available in the WSON.
This memo provides a framework for applying Generalized Multi-Protocol Label Switching (GMPLS) and the Path Computation Element (PCE) architecture to the control of wavelength switched optical networks (WSON). In particular we provide control plane models for key wavelength switched optical network subsystems and processes.
Wavelength Switched Optical Networks (WSON) are Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) based networks that include switching elements that can switch based on the wavelength or the frequency of signals transported over optical fiber. Although originally included in the overall set of Generalized Multi-Protocol Label Switching (GMPLS) based control plane protocols, optical technology developments have gone beyond the optical systems originally envisioned within GMPLS.
The 72nd IETF meeting was held in Dublin, Ireland. A number of WSON drafts were presented and many discussions ensued. The following gives a brief summary of the discussions and dispositions of the documents that we were involved with.
